Leslie Henkel: Copy, Events, Outreach, Editorial Razzle Dazzle
Where are you from? Technically, Thousand Oaks, CA (it's a suburb of LA, near some hills where they shot a lot of old Westerns starring John Wayne and the like), but I guess I associate more with being "from" Fair Oaks, CA (a suburb of Sacramento, where Arnold Schwarzenegger used to be the law).
What do you do for Kollabora? Write and edit copy, help with blog and event planning and various razzling and dazzling duties.
What was the first thing you made? A poopy? Um...not sure about the "first" creative item, but I do remember being really into making elaborate bedrooms for various dolls and animals in every corner of my room.
What was the last thing you made? A pillow decorated with a self-designed, found-fabric applique of an owl missing one eye, dancing on the branch of a tree with his eyeball friend. Errrm...there's a whole story behind it, but it's too much for one profile.
What inspires you? Nature, rubbish, vintage stuff, and my weird and demented sense of humor.
What is your favorite thing in the world? Loving/inspiring and being loved/inspired.
What did you want to be when you were a kid? A detective, like Nancy Drew, or my dad, or Scooby Doo's gang. Also a TV actress on my favorite shows, and a writer.
What was your first job? Filing files and destroying VHS and cassette tapes for the FBI. No joke. It was a thing they used to let FBI agents' kids do.
What was the best thing you did this summer? Taught art to kids for a week up in BEAM Camp in New Hampshire (and went hiking and swimming there too)! Oops, that means the last things I made were actually terrariums and egg carton dolls!
