We are hiring!
We're looking for a Web Developer Generalist!
You're passionate about DIY
If you want to empower people to be creative, learn skills, and collaborate, and/or if you like or have an interest in the maker and crafter community you would be very happy at Kollabora.
This is Kollabora
At Kollabora we are creating a sophisticated platform for learning craft skills and sharing craft projects. We’re making crafts easier by empowering people with better tools and a great marketplace of craft supplies.
We're rejuvenating an old tradition with the best modern technology. The unique combination of learning, networking, and e-commerce has gotten us coverage in WIRED Germany, WIRED UK, and Bloomberg.
We are a startup and closed funding with Khosla Ventures, Collaborative Fund, Allen & Co, 500 Startups, and prominent entrepreneurs and executives from the startup community.
We want to create a team of creative, enthusiastic people that will lead Kollabora to its full potential. We want someone that would love to dive in the challenging and amazing life of a DIY fashion and maker startup that will change the way people consume and create.
We believe that we are what we make, and that people should have a creative alternative to just buying products. They should have the opportunity to make what they're inspired by, and that's why we aim to foster a real community here at Kollabora. Our name, after all, comes from "collaboro", the Latin word for working together: users and our editorial team are inspiring and teaching each other how to make things, which is what community is all about!
We've got a nice office and very experienced team
We work out of a loft in SoHo, NY with roof-access. Near stores, restaurants, and cafes, only a few blocks away from most major subway lines.
The team consists of smart, talented, and very supportive people. Everyone is an expert in their field.
Our founder and CEO, Nora Abousteit, has been a leader in the digital craft field for over 5 years, previously founding the largest sewing community in the world (www.BurdaStyle.com).
Our CTO Tommi Forsstrom has 12 years of experience in developing commerce sites and working on SEO and visibility.
Our team members have a unique combination of deep domain expertise and passion for “making”, and we enjoy a highly professional environment.
Benefits are part of your package
Besides a good salary, health insurance, a very flexible working schedule, we also make sure that there are delicious and healthful snacks in the kitchen.
We're looking for a Web Developer Generalist!
Our technical stack is a pragmatic SOA architecture centered around a Drupal 7 application with commerce handled by the Drupal Commerce tools.
We use a continuous integration environment (Jenkins), a test suite (with CasperJS and Selenium), a build processes (Grunt / RequireJS / Compass), a Scrum-based workflow (using Pivotal Tracker), and source code management with GIT.
Currently all the other parts of the architecture are coded in Python, and we use AWS services such as S3, CloudFront, and DynamoDB. In true SOA fashion, the tool used for each specific job is dictated by what is best fit for the task.
Currently we're eight full-time employees, three of which comprise the tech team (2 developers + 1 designer / front end developer). We're all about versatility. We are more interested in your ability to adapt and learn than your years of experience in some narrow field of expertise.
Keywords that are useful: PHP, Drupal, AWS, jQuery, Backbone/Underscore, RequireJS, Python, SASS.
We also have a lot of third-party integrations, and it is like a “box of chocolate” with respect to the API you'll be facing (you never know what you’re going to get). We have integrated with everything from hastily specified CSV formats, 90s-era XML monstrosities, to modern REST APIs. We’ve done it all. Hence, we make use of a middleware architecture to normalize these interfaces into something that fits with our application.
