Birthday Dress
by Sarah Hansen Follow

I wanted a pretty party dress for my birthday next week. I liked the fun shape of Simplicity 1873 and went from there.

On hand I didn't have much of the right kind of fabric, but I did have a beautiful cream and floral print in a polyester shantung that I thought might work. I'm very pleased with how it turned out! Some of the pattern aligned really well, and the fit is pretty good.

Wanted to make the jacket too, but I'm not sure what to make it in yet. Might not get to have that in time for next week, but maybe someday down the road.

I made binding tape from pink shantung I had laying around from my wedding dress. I'm not crazy about making binding tape from scratch, but it wasn't so bad and the end result is very pretty. There's a nice drape to the dress and the silky hem keeps the movement flowing.

Excited to wear it out for the first time. I'm going to eat barbecue on my birthday, so this is tempting fate a little bit to wear white, but I think I'll feel pretty even if I catch some sauce.

Just wish I knew what shoes to wear!
