I found the pattern for the block in the Love Sewing magazine, issue 47. In the original pattern the blocks were arranged into braids that were stitched together. I cut the blocks first and realised I could make a zig-zag pattern using the same blocks. Since I only had four different color blocks I thought the zig-zag looked better. I was still able to stitch the quilt together in braids, but I had to make some braids into mirror images from the original ones and turn others upside down.
Since this was my first ever quilting project I was a bit unsure whether it would be successful. Luckily I found good tips online how to stitch and bind a quilt. My walking foot surely helped a lot and I did not get any tucks or folds to the backing fabric. I finished the binding by hand to make it neat.
I have never really admired quilts or got the people's interest in them. However, after finishing this first quilt my mind has started to think about the colours for my next one! The ratty blanket shawl in the living room could surely be replaced...
This quilt will be gifted to my soon-to-be-born nephew/niece. I am super happy to become an aunt for the first time!
