Finished stenciled tea towels.
Adhesive stencils make it easy to create one-of-a-kind tea towels for yourself or for gifts.
Supplies
Recap
Step 1: Gather your supplies.
You will need: fabric paint or ink, masking tape, sponges, adhesive stencils, scissors (optional), and plain tea towels.
Step 2: Plan your design, then adhere your stencils. Your design could be organized or random — we did one of each.
To create a border, it helps to measure and mark your edges with masking tape to make it easy to align your stencil quickly as you go.
Step 3: Paint.
For borders, remove and reposition your stencil as needed.
We cut some of our stencils apart to create a fun and more random design. We found that giving ourselves a masking tape border even on one side of small shapes helped us keep from painting over the edges.
Step 4: Remove stencils and tape.
Step 5: Admire your finished product.
Depending on the paint you've used, you may need to heat set your design with an iron before washing. Check your paint label to make sure your design doesn't disappear!
