There's nothing cuter than Amigurumi projects. They are quick to make and fun to give as gifts!
We wanted to put together all the basics of crochet Amigurumi to get you started so we teamed up with our expert mohu to create this Amigurumi Skillset. You don't need to be a crochet master to do Amigurumi, but you should know the beginner crochet stitches. Also have a look of our Amigurumi project collection for inspiration.
You also need to be able to follow and read crochet patterns which use a lot of abbreviations.
Here are some basic ones abbreviations:
- Ch = Chain
- Sc = Single Crochet
- Inc = Increase
- Dec = Decrease
- Rep = Repeat
- Sk = Skip
- Sts = Stitsches
The materials you will need are:
- Yarn. Amigurumi is a perfect use for your lefover yarn. Many crafters prefer worsted weight yarn.
- A hook smaller than what you usually use for that specific yarn. You want the stitches to be fairly tight so the stuffing does not peek through.
- You also need a yarn needle for weaving in the ends and sewing parts together.
- Scissors
- Filling to stuff your project.
Embellishments are optional, you can either use plastic eyes or buttons or embroider on your finished piece!
Have fun and please post any questions you have and share your projects on Kollabora!
