    If you're going to open and close a jump ring and you want to warp the shape as little as possible, instead of holding the pliers like you're pointing right at the jump ring, with just the tips touching the piece, try to cover as much of the jump ring as possible with the pliers, in this case holding them parallel to the spit in the jump ring.  It might seem like a small thing, but it will prevent LOTS of jump ring warping and twisting down the line.
