Introducing Ashley Rose, where sugar and spice and all things DIY go to get even sweeter. We can't say enough about the talents of Ms Rose and something tells us her dreamy and enchanting design sensibility will be making us swoon for quite some time.

We're also excited to have Ashley on board as one of our Alt Summit Contest winners who will be teaching Design Camp at the conference with us and BERNINA!

My name is Ashley Rose, but you may know me as Sugar & Cloth!  My DIY weapons of choice are, spray paint, tacky glue, confetti, and just about any hardware store item.

When I am looking for inspiration I like to browse small, local shops, they always give me tons of ideas. A lot of times I’ll see pieces I would totally buy but can’t afford the hefty price tag, so I just re-make it on a budget.

I got started making when I was as young as I can remember! I used to paint rocks from the garden and try to sell them to my neighbors, haha!

When I think about starting a new project, I make sure I’m totally in love with the idea first, otherwise it’s never as good as it could be.

The best part about running my own business is creative freedom. I like the ability to switch things up on a whim if I fall in love with something totally different. My advice to anyone looking to start their own business is you’ll only ever get as much out of it as you put into it. My husband and I actually moved to Houston for more schooling, so that’s basically our profession right now, but someday I’d love to make Sugar & Cloth into a DIY product line and book. If I ever stop creating you’ll find me weeping in my sorrows somewhere... or maybe just Fiji ;)

My favorite iPhone/smartphone app is Instagram, hands down! My favorite word is Love! My favorite artists/designers/makers are constantly growing! My current favorite artist is Kurt Halsey and some of my favorite bloggers that inspire me are Jordan Ferney, Bri Emery, Ez Peduwa, and Amy Moss.

My favorite thing about making is getting to share it with others. I don’t like to make things that I can’t see or use regularly.

To me, DIY means everything.
