Nora Meets the Maker: Erin from Sewbon!

One of our favorite parts of working events is getting to meet with some of our amazing members face to face, and we were so psyched that we got to hang with the lovely and talented Erin from the blog Sewbon while we were in Salt Lake City for Alt Summit!

Whether she's sewing up pretty little dresses or cool accessories - we're inspired by her modern, simple style and the fact that she counts Morse Code among her many skills! The ultimate combination of geek chic if you ask us!

My name is Erin, but you maybe know me on as the blogger behind Sewbon and my DIY weapons of choice are my sewing machine and an idea.

When I am looking for inspiration I browse my favorite stores and get lost in the infinite scroll of Pinterest.

After a long day of making things I like to relax with my husband and eat something chocolatey.

I got started making when I signed up for an intro to sewing class in 2011. After turning a pile of fabric into a tote bag, I was hooked and soon after got my first sewing machine.

The one thing that drives my creativity is hanging out with my friends. Talking with other creatives always sparks new ideas and leaves me feeling refreshed and excited to start something new.

When I think about starting a new project I research it on the internet. I like to get all the information I can on something before I dive in.

The first thing I do when I wake up is check my email and my calendar on my phone so I know how many times I can hit the snooze button.

The one thing that can cheer me out of any bad mood is getting outside and enjoying some sunshine on a bike ride or jog.

My favorite word is: Explore.

My favorite thing about making is the feeling of accomplishment that comes with making something with my own two hands.

The first thing I made was a tote bag in a sewing class. Then, right after getting my own sewing machine, I made 10 bowties in order to get 6 good ones for my wedding.

Three words that describe me: Happy, passionate, and loyal.

Best advice I ever received is: Work hard and be nice to people.

My go-to karaoke song is Journey’s "Don’t Stop Believin’".

I never leave the house without my Chapstick. I’ve been known to turn around or go to the nearest store to buy some when I forget it.

One fact about me that’s embarrassingly awesome is that I am super nerdy. I have my ham radio license and know Morse Code.

My DIY secret weapon is my rotary cutter. It makes cutting so much faster.

My next project is a women’s sewing pattern! Hopefully coming soon this summer!
