Intro to the Knockout Fingerless Gloves
Ready to start knitting? This easy beginner knitting project is a great way to learn. Check out this video for a quick intro to the project, then dive into the step-by-step instructions and techniques (below) to get going! Material matters: we chose a smooth yarn in a light color, so it's easy to see your stitches.

Make a Slip Knot
To get the yarn onto your knitting needles, you start with a slip knot. Tip: leave a "tail" of yarn approximately 4 inches (10cm) long. (Just let it hang for now; you'll weave it in when you finish your headband.)
Cast On Stitches
To make each fingerless glove just wide enought to snugly wrap around your wrists, we cast on 15 stitches.
Knit Every Row
To create the ribbed texture, knit every row. (This is called the "garter" stitch.) Continue until your piece is about 8 1/2" inches long.
Cast Off Stitches
Once it's long enough, to get your knitting off the knitting needles, you "cast off" or "bind off" stitches. When you cast off your last stitch, leave yourself a tail of yarn, roughly three times the width of your project. (You'll use this tail to sew or seam your gloves together.)
Thread Your Needle
In preparation for seaming the sides of your fingerless gloves together, thread the tail of your yarn through a darning (or tapestry) needle. This video tutorial shows you how: push the eye of the needle down onto the folded yarn tail, pressed between your thumb and index finger.
Seam Sides Together
For a neat edge when seaming garter stitch, match "smile"-shaped stitches on one side of the glove to "frown"-shaped stitches on the other. This video will give you a look at the process. Don't worry about making your seams perfect, as the chunky yarn will hide many sins! Tip: when you reach the space for your thumb thumb hole, run the yarn through the stitches just along one side, then continue seaming below, until the glove is fully stitched together. Before you snip the yarn tails, use the darning needle and pass them through a few stitches to secure.

Discussion 6
I love that the yarn is really thick, looks so cool!
First knitting project and pretty easy! Thanks for the tutorial!
Better than most I've seen for sale on amazon-and I can be sure the quality is the best (for a beginner, anyway!) :)
Will this project work with a non-wool yarn? I'm allergic!
Absolutely. Just make sure you match the gauge (thickness) of the wool.
Wow. So cool, so easy and good looking.
