my pocket fox
by kelerabeus Follow

This winter I was on a search for the perfect button up pattern, and this shirt was my first make on that quest! I chose the pattern from a bit older Burda issue, from 02/2005. I love two piece sleeves and piecing on the back, all in all it's a nice pattern. I did make the mistake and trace the whole pattern in the same size - while it fits my 38 size bust it's small around my 42 size hips so I have to wear it with last two buttons open. Lesson learned for the next time. I also decided to make hidden button placket. It's my first and I kinda made this decision in the middle of the sewing so I'm 99% sure that I didn't do it right, but somehow it works :)

Since I'm self proclaimed fox enthusiast I decided to embroider little peekaboo fox on the pocket. It's basic long and short stitch and I think that it looks so cute. Put a fox on it!

The skirt is also made by me, with pattern #123 from Burda 12/2010. I had fairly small piece of wool so this pattern was perfect since it calls for very little fabric. Unfortunately, at one point I washed the skirt on the wrong program and it shrank, ending up much shorter and tighter.  It annoys me dearly but I refuse to give up on it, my skirts often tend to be on a skimpier side anyway so I'm embracing the look :)

I love it!! Could you tell me where can I find the pattern of the fox in order to embroider it? I'm not good at drawing :S

    Thanks!

Thank you! Unfortunately there's no pattern, I did the drawing by the hand. Although I didn't drew from head, I browsed the Internet first for inspiration and reference. Maybe you could do it too, it won't be that hard to make a drawing once you find a picture to refer to!

Thank you so much! I'm very comfortable with warm colors and earthy tones, I'm a Capricorn so I blame zodiac for that :)

What a great project!!! The whole outfit is wonderful. I also love anything with a fox on it. How did you get him on there? Is that done by hand? My sewing knowledge goes back to high school Home Ec in the 80s and the little bit of sewing I did after HS in the form of simple curtain valances and place mats. Though when I see projects like this, I am definitely considering taking it up again. Nothing I buy in the store EVER fits me, and that's getting old.

Thank you so so much! Yes, I embroidered little fox by hand - simple long and short stitch, nothing fancy :) What I did is first I took my paper pattern pieces for the pocket and shirt front, placed them on top of each other and drew the design on them. And then after I had cut my fabric I transfered the drawing from paper and did the embroidery by hand, with the help of embroidery hoop. After embroidery was done I sewed the pieces together, and voilà! :)
I didn't have the problem with the fit of rtw clothes but I couldn't always afford it, so I taught myself how to sew. Where I live fabrics are very affordable so sewing is one of the most economical ways to have the wardrobe I've always wanted :) And now 80% of my clothes is made by me!
